Barramundi fishing has improved dramatically as a result. In other exciting news, some big cobia have been taken from from Darwin Harbour. Fishing and Outdoor World's Matt West said his fishing guide brother Mark West fished Corroboree Billabong the day after the recent Reel Women's competition and caught 10 barra. "He has also been fishing the Vernon Islands the past two days and getting queenfish, trevally and mackerel,'' Matt said. "The Kakadu billabongs are starting to hot up now, especially the Four Mile Hole on the Wildman. "Loee Patches is still producing plenty of big golden snapper for Equinox Fishing Charters. "Shoal Bay low tide holes have been producing barra on the spring low tides. "A big cobia was caught at Woods Inlet on a pilchard. "It's the second big harbour cobia recently - a customer caught a big cobia near the Deckchair Cinema a few weeks ago on a dead sardine bait." Top End Fishing Supplies' Chris Rainbird said the harbour had fired with good fish in Middle Arm caught by anglers working the creeks and gutters. "Everyone I have talked to is coming back from the harbour with fish,'' he said. "The biggest I have heard of was 85cm. "The shop's charter boat cleaned up on big goldies at South Gutter during the week. "Tom Kontis of King Kontis Fishing Tours put clients onto a 15kg cobia in the harbour last week. "Someone caught a marlin on a surface lure wide of Dundee after a bloke he was fishing with hooked a barracuda, which the marlin attacked. "Manton Dam has been producing some good-sized barra. "Garth Edie was out on Thursday night and caught jewies to 1.18m on one of the harbour wrecks." Lure One Fishing Charters' Chris Hurt said the harbour water temperature was up and barra were biting. "I fished this past week and the week before - I went up Sadgroves Creek and the barra were going absolutely crazy,'' he said. "The biggest fish was 75cm. "I caught five barra on Tuesday, seven on Wednesday and lost count of the fish on Thursday. "There are some big threadfin and blue salmon around too. "There are a lot of small queenfish around. "The bigger ones are starting to move around but are finicky. "I reckon from Monday the fish will start biting again." Got One's Craig Grosvenor said Corroboree Billabong had been inconsistent with good fish one day and none the next. "Most people seem to land a fish or two per trip with the odd fish to 75cm, and Little Lucifer lures seem to be the go,'' he said. "I have heard good reports from wide of Dundee with spanish mackerel to 10kg. "The Finniss River has also been producing good barra on the neap tides on soft plastics. "Dundee land-based fishing has been good with barra to 74cm on the incoming and high tide. "The Daly River has been firing above the crossing with green and gold lures and plastics cast at the snags. "The Narrows at the Adelaide River mouth produced 15kg and 17kg jewfish on Thursday using Black Magic bait jigs loaded with tuna flesh, with other fish dropped on the day. "East Arm has produced barra to 70cm on the flats during the recent sping low tides on shallow lures such as DK Eyecons, Just Unders and Bombers. "Lee Point reefs are still producing the odd spanish mackerel to 12kg most on the changes of neap tides, with a good berley trail doing the trick." Shoal Bay Boat Hire's Lockie said a 110cm and 114cm barra were caught at Hope Inlet by the same angler on Monday. "It's been really good - one of our hire boats caught 18 barra at the bottom of the Liittle Howard River on Monday,'' he said. "All the fish have been caught on lures on the last of the low tide. "There have been plenty of 70cm and 80cm barras. "The bottom of the Howard River has been good as well. "There are a lot of big buck crabs around now. "One of our tour boats caught 22 crabs in session. "The fishing has definitely improved with this warmer weather." Leaders Creek Fishing Base's Chris Edwards said a big mob of jewfish were caught on Thursday night in the channel next to the mainland. "Some were big jewfish and some were just school fish,'' he said. "I caught snapper, big tricky snapper and redfish out the front yesterday on the incoming tide. "There were some barra caught in the creek to 75cm during the week. "There have been a few crabs but not too many. "There does not seem to be many mackerel around.''
